The Strategic Public Company Electric Corporation of Ecuador (CELEC EP) has, as one of its most important tasks, the prospective of resources for electricity generation and transmission as well as the identification, design, and development of new projects, prioritizing the use of renewable resources, which will allow in the future to supply the increase in national demand with sources of clean energy.
Within this context, and in compliance with sectoral policies, CELEC EP is preparing the necessary internal regulations and structuring processes to develop public-private strategic alliances (PPSA), to obtain the resources needed for their construction.
A first portfolio of projects has been identified, and authorization by the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) for their development by CELEC EP through PPSA is in process, these projects add up to around 1,352.5 MW, and take advantage of different kinds of technologies: wind, hydro, photovoltaic and geothermal.
It has also started a process to receive Expressions of Interest for the provision of Natural Gas for its thermal generation plants: Termogas Machala (El Guabo – El Oro canton) Alvaro Tinajero and Enrique García (Guayaquil – Guayas) and therefore, enhance their operation during the dry season (between November and march), when the production of hydroelectric plants on the Amazon slope decreases.
The private sector, through mechanisms that are stablished in the Organic Law of Public Companies and other applicable regulations, can become a strategic partner of CELEC EP to guarantee the generation and transmission services of electrical energy that Ecuador will demand during the next five years.

ABASTECIMIENTO DE GAS NATURAL PARA LA GENERACIÓN ELÉCTRICA DEL PARQUE TERMOELÉCTRICO DE CELEC EP
La Empresa Pública de Generación Eléctrica del Ecuador, CELEC EP, se encuentra estructurando un plan de introducción de Gas Natural a las plantas termoeléctricas Termogás Machala (cantón El Guabo –El Oro), Álvaro Tinajero y Enrique García (cantón Guayaquil – Guayas), con el objeto de reemplazar combustibles líquidos de importación como son: el Diesel y el Fuel OIl que se utilizan en volúmenes significativos en la termo generación con un combustible de producción nacional o importación de menor costo como lo es el Gas Natural, lo que permitirá un mejor manejo de este parque termoeléctrico.
